Welcome to 'Best Of' week! I've spent the last few weeks reflecting on my reading year and distilled my favorite reading experiences into a few categories. Each day this week, I'll share a list from one category. Culminating with my Top 10 on Friday.
One of the biggest joys of being a reader is those serendipitous reading experiences. The Unexpected Delight. They are the books that take you by surprise. Whether because they exceeded your expectations, were a case of the right book at the right time, or because a friend wholeheartedly recommended it.
These are my favorite kinds of books, and I'm always seeking out more reading experiences like them. But they can be hard to seek out because you must just let them happen.
They are always memorable and often spur a period of good reading in my reading life.
In no particular order, here are six books that were unexpected delights for me this year.
