January, lately
A little photo diary from the month so far
A heads up: there are lots of photos in today’s post, so it’s best viewed on a desktop or in the Substack app!
When this hits your inboxes, I’ll be well on my way to a weekend away with two of my best friends from college. We’ll be coming from Maine, New Hampshire, and Connecticut to hole up in a cozy Airbnb for the weekend. Right now, the forecast looks very snowy, which honestly sounds ideal for a weekend with good friends.
Today, I’m sharing some moments from the month so far from my phone’s camera roll. I’d love to hear what you’ve been up to this month. A little photo diary, if you will…
Dean and I kicked off the month (and year) with a sunset walk on the beach. One of the towns nearby does a big beach bonfire on New Year’s Eve, which was such a lovely way to greet the new year.

I had my first photo session of the year! One of my May wedding clients was in town for the weekend, so we met at the beach in Ogunquit for a chilly (but sunny!) session. I matched my socks to my sweater, which is really the best flair you can get this time of year here in Maine.

On a free Saturday, we day-tripped to Rockland to visit the Farnsworth Art Museum, which I’d never been to. It was lovely! We stopped at Mother of Purl on the way to pick out yarn for a sweater I’m crocheting for Dean. We also stopped at one of my favorite Maine bookshops, Arctic Tern, after the museum. Also, my fleece-lined tights in action made me feel cute.

The key to surviving winter here (in my opinion) is getting outside when you can. On a sunny Sunday, we visited one of our favorite coastal hiking spots and did a very icy 1.5-mile loop, admiring the views, before we warmed up with hot tea afterward.

Lots of crochet and cat snuggling. I’m almost done making a scarf with this gorgeous dusty rose yarn that’s going to be so cozy. Henry is almost 9 months old now, and I start most mornings with him cuddling up in bed with me (pictured below). That little face!

I have been reading a ton! So many good books (and more on that next week). I am also back on a Kindle kick for bedtime reading, and I made it cute.

And, of course, lots of snow. Our street looks so cute when it snows. We also got out last weekend for our first snowshoe adventure of the season. This place is a favorite — you trek a 3-mile loop in the woods, and at the halfway point, they have a hut that serves beer, cider, and hot chocolate while everyone hangs out around fire pits. A very fun afternoon! I’m hoping we’ll hit the ski slopes in February.

How’s your month going?
See you next week,
