I’m just back from a week at the lake, and my summer vacation reading looked a little different this year. I had visions of long, beachy reading sessions, like the ones I had in 2017, the last time I went on a family vacation, when I devoured books in St. Maarten before hitting happy hour with my cousins. This time around, we had an almost three-year-old with us, and between embracing my fun aunt role and chatting with family, I didn’t get as much reading in. But honestly, that felt okay!

One shift I noticed this month: I’m off my Kindle. Does that ever happen to you? I powered through a few e-books early in the month but kept wishing I had waited for the physical copies. There’s just something about holding a real book instead of a device that feels better to me this season. Overall, less reading than hoped for this month, but still some gems. Here’s the lineup.
