I appreciate the ways you're reframing your reading life for the summer, Michelle. I had a professor in college (one of my favorites) who was a huge supporter of monotasking. There was one paper in particular that he gave a lot of students a NG on with a list of tips for writing. He told the class we couldn't read or write with any noise in the background-- no TV or music!
This showed up in my inbox on just the right morning. Summer can often feel so overwhelming as everyone is out and gathering and making the most of the season before the cold weather drives us indoors again. It's so easy to get wrapped up in the energy. But I'm really trying to channel a slower summer. So thank you for writing this!
I'm so happy to hear that, Sam! I totally feel you. I think we live in similar places that are driven by the (short lived) tourist season so that pressure to enjoy the season to its fullest is so real. But channeling a slower summer is exactly what I want too!
This are GREAT. I was nodding my head reading each thing on your list. I love the idea of a "whole body yes" and I'm going to adapt that for my own decision making (maybe it'll help with my seemingly chronic decision fatigue). Curating what you consume digitally is hard, especially when people you follow online seem so passionate about their recommendations. But learning what you want now in your reading life and choosing what content aligns with that is so important to keep from feeling burnt out.
I love these tips. It always feel good to clean up my TBR pile especially on goodreads. I currently have over 1,000 on my list and always think about the person I was when i put that book on the TBR at the time. Such a good reset idea!

It's such a hard thing to do when you really start focusing on it! But so worth it, even to claim back a little bit of that focus.

Yes, yes, yes to all of this! It feels really good once it all aligns.

Yes, that’s such a good way of looking at it! Like the different versions of ourselves and the different moods we were in.
Ok in your honor I will go home tonight and pick my two vacation books for this weekend. I already know what is Magnolia Parks :)
Oooooohhhh, what a juicy vaca read!
