I have been leaning hard into the fall reads this year and thought sharing our favorite books that give us the ultimate fall feeling would be fun.
No matter what your flavor of fall reading is, whether you lean into lit fic fall, cozy reads, spooky reads, or a bit everything, I’d love to hear a title or two that you think of when you think “fall.” 🍂☕️🪵🍁🕯️🤎
I have an endless list on my mind at the moment, so I’ll start us off in the comments! ⬇️
I have two in mind: one romantic comedy and one more literary. I recently read Enchanted to Meet You by Meg Cabot (yes, of Princess Diaries fame!), which was an absolute delight. It has a small-town New England setting, witty writing, a lovable cast of characters, and just a touch of magic.
My other rec made my top 10 last year, Sirens and Muses by Antonia Angress. It's a campus novel set in the art world, and I was utterly hooked while reading. It's edgy, and I loved the commentary on art as a commodity.
I love this! I'm on the hunt for some fun cozy reads for fall. It's already raining a ton in Seattle so ready to embrace all things warm and cozy. Two favorites for me are The City Baker's Guide to Country Living by Louise Miller and Very Sincerely Yours by Kerry Winfrey! I'm currently reading The Marriage Portrait (recommended by Michelle!) and it is very atmospheric for fall, I'm loving it. Also reading Witch of Wild Things by Raquel Vasquez Gilliland! - Megan
Ah, yes! We had a cool and rainy day here in Maine recently and I felt like it was the mental switch I needed to embrace fall. The City Baker's Guide is such a good one, one of my favorites. And I'm so happy you're loving The Marriage Portrait!
Her first book, The Dictionary of Lost Words, was fascinating and thought-provoking. This second book is giving me a lot of context about WWI, which isn’t as commonly written about in Historical Fiction as WWII.
Leaves of Grass by Walt Whitman is soooo fall to me. Maybe because I read it for the first time in college. Fall is such a reflective time, Leaves of Grass (particularly Song of Myself) gives SO MUCH.
Also anything Agatha Christie (cozy), Just Kids by Patti Smith (New York) and Ghost Wall by Sarah Moss (spooky).
The Secret History paired with the juicy bingeable podcast Once Upon a Time at Bennington College. If you’ve already read and listened to those two, my favorite from last year was Groundskeeping by Lee Cole. Another campus novel about writers, but in the south and trees play a part.
I love The Secret History and just recently listened to the podcast - so fun! I haven’t heard much about Groundskeeping and now I’m off to look it up 👀
I’m currently reading some mysteries but not really drawn to any of them so looking to switch up my fall reading. I’m thinking about picking up some short story or poetry collections on my shelves. I also have The Vaster Wilds that I’d like to get to soon!
I hope you find your reading groove! I read a few pages of The Vaster Wilds and it reminded me of The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O’Farrell (which I recently read and loved) so I’m excited for it!
A long-time fave is The Secret History by Donna Tartt. But this month I'm going to try and read Practical Magic... I've not read it but I feel it might be perfect.
A little late to the party but a few books that I’ve read so far this Fall and have been excellent Fall reads are Weyward by Emilia Hart and All Our Hidden Gifts by Caroline O’Donoghue. Both bringing the witchy vibes and thanks to Michelle for recommending the Hidden Gifts book! Also I dipped my toe into a horror read for October and read How to Sell a Haunted House by Grady Hendrix. While I enjoyed it and Grady Hendrix is an entertaining with a dollop of terrifying writer I don’t know if horror will be in the regular rotation for me 😅

Enchanted to Meet You is on my list! Glad to know it’s great for fall vibes!

Very Sincerely Yours is so much fun!
You should check out The Very Secret Society for Irregular Witches if you haven’t already!
Loved that one! Thinking of a reread this year ☺️
I’d suggest The Spoon Stealer by Lesley Crewe. This is a hug of a book...an absolute delight!
A hug of book! That sounds delightful.
I'm currently reading The Bookbinder by Pip Williams, it's her second book and I'm very pulled into this historical fiction novel.
Ohh, this sounds intriguing! I'm going to have to look it up.

I love that it has that memory attached to it for you! I'm with you on all things New York for fall ◡̈

I loved Groundskeeping. Such a thought provoking gem of a read.

I’m thinking of starting The Shell Seekers since it’s one of my mom’s favorites and it would be fun to discuss it with her.
I love that! I hope you enjoy it ☺️

Oh, you’re in for such a cozy treat! Enjoy 😊
I have recently finished reading When We Were Birds by Ayanna Lloyd Banwo and it is a perfect October/November read.
Nice! I haven’t heard of that one so I’ll definitely have to look it up ☺️
