Of your Nov reads, I’ve only read Martyr! and it was not a book for me. But that’s why there are so many books for every reader, books are not a one size fits all. In Nov, I really liked Women and Children First, which was a page-turner for me, but also required a fair bit of concentration.
I read the Book of George on your recommendation this month and really liked it as well!! I really enjoy books that span so many years in a character’s life and found George the most realistic mix of annoying and charming. I’m eager to read another book by Kate Greathead now!
Home for the Holidays is high on my Christmas TBR, and you may have just convinced me to give Martyr! a shot - the cover has definitely not made it seem like my vibe, but maybe it will be!
Martyr keeps popping up for me. How long does a book have to show itself before I finally give it a chance!? Calm Christmas sounds like a lovely seasonal read!
I think you've convinced me to move Martyr up on my TBR! And thank you for the holiday recs - nothing I saw this season was really speaking to me, but these two sound right up my alley.
It's fun to step outside your comfort zone with reading! I don't always land on a winner but sometimes it's worth it anyways. I also read Impossible Creatures and feel pretty lukewarm about it but I think it's a great pick for a child interested in fantasy!
"I always delight in reading a novel by a poet" - Ohhh, I love that you pinpointed this as this is something I have recently noticed too, after reading Evenings & Weekends by OisÃn McKenna and loving it. I can't wait to finally read Martyr!
Yay great post, a few more titles to my ever-growing TBR 😅
I really loved 'The Shadow of the Wind' by Carlos Ruiz Zafon (besides a bit of a slow point in the middle). Now I'm on the next book in the series 'The Angel's Game', which I like less. Quite a slow start but picks up mid-way and I'm giving it a chance :)
Cannot wait to pick up Martyr!
I loved Martyr so much!!
I’m curious about Martyr now! Thanks for putting it on my radar
You’re welcome, happy reading ◡̈

I’ve been so curious about Women and Children First, I’m so glad to hear you enjoyed it!
I picked up Impossible Creatures for my 8-year-old's book bag for Christmas; I'm excited to read it with him!
That will be a really fun one to read together ◡̈

I’m not sure if it will be your vibe! But I’ll be curious to know what you think if you give it a go.
January is typically my time for being adventurous in my reading, so maybe I’ll attempt it then!

Hahaha, sometimes the 17th time is the charm to get you to finally read it ◡̈

So happy I could pass along some recs that resonated!
Elif Shafak: ‘There are rivers in the sky’: is totally amazing, it made me think deeply, laugh & cry. Greeting from Ireland:))
That sounds like a wonderful read ◡̈
