I love this! Definitely have even more books to add to my list. I am unsure whether I want to read Intermezzo or not - I have mixed feelings about Rooney's books, but I can't deny they are special.
What a great reading month!!! Shady Hollow, Mad Woman, Colored Television, and The Good Part are all on my TBR! And I've got my eyes on the soon-to-be-released annotated edition of Bel Canto. I've yet to read Rooney; I always hear such mixed things and haven't had the courage to test her out for myself.
I heard about the new annotated version of Bel Canto after I finished and I'm a little bummed I didn't read that version! I bet it's so interesting to see her thoughts.
Bel Canto! Oh my god. I love Ann Patchett *so* much (The Dutch House is one of my all time favourites ever) but I absolutely DESPISED Bel Canto. Just could not get on board with it at all 😂
I'm learning that it's a bit of a divisive books for readers! It seems like folks loved it or hated it. Before reading it, I had only read her most recent work (Commonwealth, The Dutch House, Tom Lake) so I was pretty surprised that it was so different from those family centered novels!
I am very intrigued by Colorized Television now because I couldn't even watch Beef past ep 1 because it made me so anxious but I LOVED American Fiction (though it made me cringe throughout, of course).
Hahaha, oh man, I don't know if you'll love it or hate it then! It's so cringey but also so good? I'll be curious to hear your thoughts if you give it a go ◡̈
The consensus at my book club last night was that it might have benefited from being longer! We felt there were alot of elements that were left open, and not in the short story way where it works!
I am interested about how you found Intermezzo!! I think it’s my favourite of her books, but I also connected to Intermezzo deeply due to a manner of personal reasons, which I definitely think affects my relationship w the novel. I also just loved a Rooney book where the sole focus wasn’t a relationship? I enjoyed that the relationships had their own success anxieties, but ultimately we are invested in the brothers. Anyway you can read all my thoughts later 😉 xxx I’m interested in coloured television too!

I think it's worth a read! It's definitely a book that gives you lots to think about.
I felt the same about Intermezzo. I'm about to pre-order Jenny Bayliss' book and I'm still on the fence about the new M.L.Rio story.
If you're a horror/gothic fan, I'd say go for it! It's pretty short. But if you're not a huge fan of that genre, I'd say skip ◡̈
I'm so happy that you liked Under Your Spell! Such a cozy, lovely romance.
Okay, between the two of you I was convinced to see if I had this on my Kindle and ta da, an old DRC was sitting there waiting! Digging in now :-)
Yes, Katy! I think you're going to love it too.
The loveliest! I'm eager for her to write more rom-coms ◡̈

I read Shady Hollow this month as well and was utterly charmed. I'm looking forward to slowly making my way through the series!
Utterly charmed is the perfect way to describe it!

Congrats on finding your way back into a comfy reading zone!!
Thanks, Natalie!
I'm a huge dark/gothic/horror fans and was also "meh" about Graveyard Shift.
